Observance of a holiday like Labor Day
Labor Day is a national holiday in the United States and Canada to honor working people. Working people could be defined as those that are paid wages on a systematically payment schedule like weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. This special day of September 1 is supposed to be a day of honor and a day to celebrate the workers that contribute to a purpose in society. This holiday is not an entitlement to have the day without work, but a day designated as having special significance, a day deemed by our government that observation is warranted.
Many companies utilize this national holiday to highlight their business with specially named sales. Then they staff their stores with working people to lure the fortunate working people that are not staffing the stores to buy some products. Many other professions also celebrate this day as a non working holiday and they celebrate the day by shopping and visiting the stores that than require the stores to be staffed by less fortunate working people. I wonder if the working people within the corporate offices of these retail stores have the day off?
In the times that we live today, many retail stores, restaurants and neighborhood utilities are open to the public 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was only 30 years ago that retail stores were not open on Sunday and grocery stores were not open all night long. It is my prediction that many other professions will follow this trend and remain open 7 days a week and open on holidays. Perhaps this can be viewed as an opportunity to add employable positions for the working people. Perhaps the increase in jobs and revenue would increase the gross national product. Than we will have something to celebrate!
